The Department of Education seeks to ensure that all public elementary and secondary schools are geared up when the 2014-2015 school year starts in June, by setting an early registration date for new students on January 25.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro says his department seeks to prevent logistical problems, such as insufficient classrooms and learning materials for students, by gathering preliminary data from public schools to prepare for their needs as early as this month.
The department also looks to ensure that all five-year-olds are enrolled in Kindergarten, and all six-year-olds are enrolled in Grade 1 by June.
