Bohol braces for possible impact of Typhoon Pablo

By David Santos

In Bohol, one of some two dozen provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao that will be strongly feeling the effects of Typhoon Pablo, the provincial Disaster Response and Risk Reduction Management Council says the province could be situated in the direct corridor of the storm's path.

As of posting time, Bohol is under Public Storm Signal No. 3 together with the neighboring islands of Cebu, Siquijor, and the two Negros provinces.

Typhoon Pablo is forecast to track toward Bohol sometime in late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Classes in the elementary and high school have been suspended, as well as the operations of all inter-island and commercial shipping.

The provincial government has set up an emergency management operation called TARSIER (Telephone and Radio System for Integrated Response) where residents can communicate 24/7 when in need of assistance especially during calamities.

The provincial disaster office will also be using a so-called text blast service to relay the latest warnings and advisories to local government units for quickly mobilizing appropriate actions such as pre-emptive evacuations.

Aside from the northeast part of Bohol, which is anticipated to bear the brunt of the typhoon's effects, local authorities say they will be keeping a tight watch on communities situated near river channels for the possible occurrence of flash floods.
