Senator Bong Revilla's reaction to the junking of his Motion for Reconsideration regarding his alleged participation in the pork scam was unconventional and, for most Filipinos, confusing.
Revilla delivered a speech at the Senate on Monday (June 9), but instead of directly attacking the issues that have landed him in the headlines, he took to almost pleading with President Benigno Aquino III, saying enough with the mudslinging and character assassination.
He asked the president to use his remaining years in office to address the issues plaguing Filipinos, among them joblessness, the lack of access to medical care, and the slow rehabilitation efforts in areas ravaged by Typhoon Yolanda.
There was none of the fire Revilla exhibited during his earlier privilege speech, he instead turned emotional as he mentioned his Senate colleagues, expressing his gratitude, good wishes, and admiration for each of them. He thanked God, his family, and the people who voted for him, saying he would not turn away from his responsibilities even as he faces this trying time.
But things took a turn for the unbelievable as the senator ended his privilege speech with a music video featuring a song he penned and sang.
Predictably, Twitter exploded with comments from netizens who couldn't quite believe what they were witnessing and, thus, the birth of the hashtag #BongPanes:
The Office of the Ombudsman on Friday (June 6) filed plunder raps against Revilla, along with alleged scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles and Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada. - Solar News Online, from a report by Pia Garcia
